Books and Science Fiction I Will Be Reading
There are so many terrific books about robots and cyborgs out there, but those listed on the sidebar are the ones I personally chose to read for my particular sci-fi novels and novelettes I will be writing. I can't read every single book about robots and cybernetics, so I picked books I am interested in that I know I will spend some time reading. Daniel Dinello's Technophbia! is an absolute must-read for me because I want to know the history of robots in science fiction, and through the process get curious as to how robots function. I am also interested in robots and love, and what love can mean, or do to them, so that is why I also picked David Levy's Love + Sex with Robots: The Evolution of Human-Robot Relationships.
I realize I have a lot of readings/fiction from Isaac Asimov, but he is the reason I love to read about robots and write about robots and androids. I have to read from the master :D
Movies and Anime I Will Be Viewing
The Japanese anime I view is for entertainment within the subjects of my fascination for this blog [Cybernetic Dreams]. I don't watch them one after another; usually I watch one or two episodes at a time. Sometime after watching the episodes, I start reflecting on the events in the episode and it brings up thoughts and ideas about robots or cyborgs that I usually don't think about, that I want to explore later. This is especially true for Android Kikader: The Animation and Cyborg 009. It happens without me wanting to, but I accept it nonetheless.
As for the movies WALL-E and Robots (which I will see later), I watch that for pure enjoyment. Again, they are related to the subject of robots and I don't really plan to make it a whole deal analyzing things. They are just nice to enjoy without thinking deep, heavy thoughts.
I, Robot, however, is a film that does make me think on a deeper level. It inspires me to think about Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics and think deeper about them than the literal meaning. For some reason I feel like I have to read between the lines when it comes to rules for robots like those, especially if they are supposed to be hardwired into them.
